A Weird Analogy To Understand the Difference Between AI and LLM

You may have heard the terms AI and LLM and wondered what’s the difference between them.

I came up with a weird analogy to help you understand the difference.

Think of AI (Artificial Intelligence) as animals and LLMs (Large Language Models) as cats.

While all LLMs are AI, not all AI are LLMs. Just like all cats are animals, but not all animals are cats.

AI is a category of algorithms that can perform tasks requiring human intelligence. Examples are visual perception, speech recognition, language translation, etc.

LLMs are specialized in processing and generating human language, just like cats are skilled at hunting and climbing.
So when you are chatting with ChatGPT (CatGPT? :-)), you are using an LLM.

I hope this analogy helps you avoid confusion the next time you see a discussion on social media.
