Some time ago, I bought a robot vacuum cleaner. It makes me smile every time I use it because I love automation.
Yet, buying it needed some adjustments. For instance, I can no longer leave items on the floor.
When using a normal vacuum cleaner, I would just move these items during cleaning. Although the robot has AI object detection, it doesn’t move items, clean under them, and put them back.
The goal was the same – to clean the house. But introducing automation means the environment and the process had to change.
The good thing? All I need to do now is remove things from the floor, start the robot, and wait while doing something else 🙂
The lesson here? Implementing automation in your company will need some adjustments.
These could be:
- Process Changes: You might need to alter workflows to fit automated systems.
- Technological Adjustments: Changes in the data structure or software might be necessary.
Why is this important? Planning the whole thing before implementation helps avoid inefficiencies.
For example, forgetting to remove items from the floor means I have to restart the robot. Without proper planning, your company could face similar (often costly) disruptions.
